WHAT CAN I EXPECT AT MY FIRST VISIT?
At your initial visit, you can expect to be in the office for about 1 hour. In this time, we will take an in-depth medical history, give a brief description of our practice, perform a posture exam, check the spine and range of motion, explain our findings, and perform an adjustment. Chiropractic adjustments are very safe and low-risk; you may experience muscle soreness the next day. At the end of your visit, the doctors will provide a care plan and recommendations to help you meet your health goals!
Here’s what this all looks like!
STEP 1: CHECK IN TO YOUR APPOINTMENT
When arriving to your Initial Visit appointment, it is best to check in about 10 minutes early! You will check in with the Chiropractic Assistant at the front desk, and she will provide you with a couple of forms to be completed. Before starting the appointment, we encourage you to use the restroom, get some water, or settle in however you need!
STEP 2: POSTURE SCAN
After you have been checked in and have your final forms completed, our Chiropractic Assistant will complete a posture scan. This is a tool we use to analyze your starting point in care by documenting your posture, and calculating your effective spinal stress load.
Step 3: history & exam
After your Posture Scan assessment, either Dr. Liz or Dr. Lindsay will bring you to the main adjusting area and discuss with you your health history, current condition, and your goals for wellness. You will also receive a physical exam performed by the doctor. This gives the doctors information on what traumas your body has undergone, and where your baseline starting point in care is at.
Step 4: get adjusted
After your exam is complete, you will receive your first adjustment with either Dr. Liz or Dr. Lindsay. Their adjusting styles and techniques will be specific to your own individual needs and comfort level. While chiropractic care is safe and effective, it can be normal to experience muscle soreness following your adjustment when significant movement of the spine has been made.
Step 5: discuss care plans with your doctor
After completing your posture scan, history, exam, and adjustment, Dr. Liz or Dr. Lindsay will compile all of their recommendation for care and discuss care plans moving forward. This includes how frequently you need to be adjusted, and what length of time is recommended before completing a Progress Exam, in which we overview the changes made and provide subsequent care plans to follow your initial intensive phase of care.
step 6: check out from your appointment
After discussing care plans, the CA working at the front desk will make sure all things are good to go, help schedule your next visit and patient orientation, and ensure you have been given all resource information so you can continue care with the greatest ease. After each visit, it is important to check out with our CA before leaving the office.
step 7: care for your spine at home
Following your adjustment, it is always a good idea to take a quick 5-10 minute walk before getting straight back in your car to drive away; movement helps to train your body to embrace a new pattern. Muscle soreness is typical when there is significant movement in your adjustment; this soreness can be treated with heat or ice, massage with some soothing essential oils, or a warm bath with epsom salt. Because the body enters a state of enhanced healing and detoxification following your adjustment, be sure to drink plenty of water and get plenty of rest.
step 8: attend orientation
The Orientation Class is an essential and required part of your care within our office. It is our passion and our pleasure to share with you all we know on taking care of your body and promoting your own personal wellness. At this class, we discuss topics such as development, ergonomics, holding your adjustment, nutrition, sleep, stretching, and exercise. This class is full of important information!
